Asphere Cell Operator 

Basic Function of the Job

The machine operator is responsible for the set-up and operation of the Asphere Generator, Asphere Polisher, Metrology, and cleaning/inspection equipment for the production of fused silica optics. They will be responsible for following established production procedures and must ensure that the parts produced conform to all aspects of the print. Proper selection of tools, feeds and speeds, together with a trained eye for inspection is critical to the successful machining of the optics. Precise optical and mechanical cleaning, inspection, and metrology have to be performed to not only qualify parts but also to set-up machinery and to apply error corrections.

Job Requirements

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent, strong math/Algebra background or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • >3 years of experience in optics related field preferred.
  • Any of the following experience is preferred: Optics shop experience, Machine shop experience, Machine operation, Inspection, Metrology or QA experience.

Shift : Must be available to work any shift.

Special Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable in reading drawings and production paperwork.
  • Competent math skills for unit conversions and scientific notation.
  • Able to qualify for tasks outlined in asphere operator capability matrix.
  • Good mechanical problem solving.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • High degree of concentration in generating, polishing, and measuring of products and consistent attention to quality.

2 Axis Operator

Basic Function of the Job

 

 

Set up and operate Two Axis Diamond Turning Machine for production of custom optical components. Machine Operation will be conducted with limited supervisor/engineering/shift lead direction. Operator will be required to measure figure and finish of components. Components should be machined in accordance with documented process parameters or under guidance of department engineers.

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Education:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.  Competent shop math and algebra skills. Familiarity with trigonometry will be a distinct benefit in this field.

 

Experience:

  • Experience and competence as a Diamond Flycut and High Speed Operator is the essential prerequisite for a Two Axis Machine Operator

 

Working Conditions:

  • Standing stationary for long periods. Clean environment. Requires consistent attention to quality and ability to multitask in running more than 1 machine. Use of personal protective equipment required.

    • Operator has a good understanding for the specification requirements of diamond turned components. Specifically component thickness, optical figure, radius and surface finish. In addition operator should be aware of machining errors such as mounting distortion, centripetal distortion, tool deflection and concical error.
    • Develop a good understanding for the QA procedures associated with testing of the diamond turned components.
    • Communicate all minor operating problems and anomalies to the supervisor.
    • Document critical process parameters and communicate clearly, either written or verbal, on the status at the end of their shift.
    • Operator must have practical understanding of the CNC Controller.
    • Operator may be required to perform back-up operation of the flycutter machine, as directed by supervisor.
  • Independent Operation             15%
    • Operator can set up machine and run processes, while monitoring critical parameters and solving minor problems that may arise, to successfully utilize second shift operation of the machine.

    • Operator can perform cycling, blocking and lapping procedures of components in preparation for diamond turning.

    • The operator should follow established procedures for selecting and handling diamond tools.

Thin Film Coating Tech

Basic Function of the Job

 

Operation of automated and manual thin film coating chambers.  Programs design sequencing for evaporation requirements.  Monitors evaporation process for precise evaporation end points.  Maintains two high volume coating chambers through proper setup, tear downs, operational modes and miscellaneous setup maintenance.  Documents in detail all evaporation data, relaying abnormalities to shift lead and/or supervisor.  Works as a team player supporting all shift work activities.

 

Job Requirements

 

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent, strong math background or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

DRAFTSPERSON

 

Basic Function of the Job

 

Provides mechanical designated drafting support to departments in II-VI Inc. Can work from sketches, drawings or verbal instructions to produce working drawings. Performs detail drafting. Responsible for generating parts list, including fabricated and purchased parts and develops manufacturing drawings from pre-designed components of existing manufacturing configurations.

 

Job Requirements

 

Education:

  • Associate Degree in an engineering discipline with working knowledge of CAD software required (i.e., AutoCAD Rev 13, ProEngineering with 3D modeling).

Experience:

  • 0-3 years in a CAD/Mechanical drafting with background in computer aided design software.

Job Conditions
