On Wednesday (12/27/17) one of our students died tragically. A sudden loss like this can have a profound effect on students. It is important that we recognize this loss and offer help. Counselors will be available THURSDAY December 28th from 11 am to 2 pm at the school to speak with any students who would like to talk with someone. Counselors will also be available on January 2nd when school resumes.
Also, your child may approach you with questions or concerns about the situation. I would encourage you to respond to such questions and concerns as directly as possible. If your adolescent was a friend of Levi, we urge you to call us for additional suggestions.
If you would like to talk to one of our counselors about handling your child’s concerns, please call me at 724-763-7116 Ex. 3300. After school hour, the you may call Crisis Line at 877-333-2470.
We are especially concerned about the youth in all our communities, who are experiencing strong emotions. Sudden death is always painful to understand, and your adolescent may experience signs of stress. These include:
Difficulty sleeping Changes in sleeping
Inability to concentrate Absentmindedness
Irritability Thoughts of death or dying
Fearfulness and worries Use of alcohol or other drugs
Withdrawing from activities and friends Risk-taking behaviors
We feel that is it important for us to work together to help your child. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions or information that you would like to share.
