2021 SkillsUSA National Medical Math Competition Gold Medal Winner!

Jordane Schaeffer, 2021 SkillsUSA National Medical Math Competition Gold Medal Winner

Lenape Technical School is proud to announce Jordane Schaeffer as the 2021 SkillsUSA National Medical Math Competition Gold Medal Winner!  Jordane competed in the National SkillsUSA competition in June representing Lenape Technical School and PA SkillsUSA as the State Gold Medalist during competition.  Jordane is the daughter of Connie and Kenneth Schaeffer of Ford City.

Jordane earned her way into the SkillsUSA National Medical Math competition by winning the Lenape Tech local competition while she was a junior in the Biomedical Technology Program.  She then went on to win the District-level competition in January of 2020.  While her next step would have been to attend the 2020 State competition in Hershey, PA in April 2020, all state and national competitions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although local competitions would again need to be cancelled, we were pleased to learn that the 2021 state and national SkillsUSA competitions would take place virtually.  This meant that Jordane, now a senior, advanced directly to the state level competition held virtually in March 2021 where she earned a gold medal for finishing in first place.  Normally, state winners would then compete at the SkillsUSA National Conference originally scheduled to be held this year in Atlanta, GA., however, the ongoing pandemic concerns required students to compete virtually. Jordane’s state win qualified her for the national competition in Medical Math which was held on June 16th where she finished first out of 17 competitors from around the United States and its territories.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. It is a nonprofit national education association serving middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service including health occupations.  The SkillsUSA Championships are career competition events showcasing the best and brightest career and technical education students across the nation. The SkillsUSA Medical Math competition evaluates a students’ ability to understand and solve mathematical problems commonly used in clinical, pharmaceutical, and laboratory health care settings.

Jordan Schaeffer was a three year student in the Biomedical Technology Program at Lenape Technical School.  She was an honor student ranking first in her graduating class. She was also a member of the Lenape Tech Chapter of the National Honor Society, and Treasurer of Skills Council, Lenape Tech’s student government organization. In her technical program, Jordane was honored as the Most Outstanding 3rd Year Senior and received the Laboratory Technician Award.  She was also voted by Lenape Tech faculty and staff as the 2021 Most Outstanding Senior.

Jordane will attend Duquesne University in the fall majoring in pharmacy and has been accepted into their honors program.  Her career goal is to obtain a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree and work in Biomedical Research.
