Covid-19 Update 3-16-19

Dear Students, Families, and Community Partners,

At this time, we have opted to CLOSE our school for 10 business days, beginning Monday, March 16, in lieu of implementing continuity of instruction plans. This decision is due in part to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf's order to close all K-12 Pennsylvania schools as well as additional information and guidance provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. As of this date, the school plans to reopen on Monday, March 30. Please note that, depending of the progression of this situation, the school closure may extend beyond the dates listed above. Should that be the case, updated information will be provided in a timely manner.
Although this situation is rapidly evolving, we want to provide the following guidance regarding upcoming events and activities that directly impact our students:

School Work/Make-up Work/Assignments:
The continuity of education and learning is of paramount importance to our faculty and staff. At this time, Lenape Tech has decided during this closure, coursework and assignments will not be required to be completed. We will continue to follow the guidance of the Department of Education in the event that the closure is extended. Currently, we plan to resume instruction Monday, March 30th.
We ask that parents and students not report to the school to attempt to gather study materials.
Please check our website for several free educational resources that students can choose to explore during the closure.

Lenape Tech is working in cooperation with the sending districts to provide all full-time and part-time students access to meals to be distributed at localized sites within each district. More information will be forthcoming regarding specific locations and times as they are finalized by each sending district.

Certification Testing, Clinical Hours:
Lenape instructors will be working with certification testing providers and sponsors to determine the most appropriate action regarding participation in certification testing or the completion of clinical experience hours. Additional information will be provided as those details are finalized.

Cooperative Education:
Students are permitted to participate in co-op during the school closure so long as the sponsoring employer authorizes student to work. This will be a case-by-case decision based on the employer’s protocols resulting from the overall health and wellness of all employees in a particular workplace setting. Students/parents are encouraged to have conversations with their employers and follow their recommendations. Students will not be graded and no school cooperative education coordinator visits will take place during the school’s closure.

School Events:
All scheduled on-site classes and activities and school events have been suspended until further notice.

National Honor Society Induction scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th has been postponed.
SkillsUSA State Competitions have been cancelled.
NOCTI Exams: The performance NOCTI assessments which were scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th has been suspended until further notice.
Job Skills Demonstrations: All senior Job Skills Demonstrations have been suspended until further notice.
Occupational Advisory Committee meetings: OAC meetings which were scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th have been suspended until further notice.
Prom: Lenape’s Prom which is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th has not been changed and will remain tentatively scheduled.

However, please understand that we will be responding to the most up-to-date guidance regarding large social gatherings provided to us from the Centers for Disease Control, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and local emergency management with regard to the potential of more long-term cancellations of such events.

Wesley P. Kuchta
Administrative Director
