Remote Learning Days

September 2026

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Lenape Technical School will transition from using Pennsylvania’s Flexible Instructional Day (FID) program to Remote Learning Days when instruction must occur outside of traditional in-person school day due to circumstances such as inclement weather.

The change follows updates to Pennsylvania School Code that provide school districts with additional flexibility in how instructional time is delivered and counted toward state requirements. Pennsylvania’s Flexible Instructional Day program requires districts to apply through the Pennsylvania Department of Education for approval to use a limited number of FIDs each year. Lenape Tech completed its most recent application in June 2025, which provided approval for five Flexible Instructional Days annually through the 2026-2027 school year.

In March 2024, updates to Pennsylvania School Code introduced new flexibility for school districts, allowing them to:

  • Change the mode of instruction delivery at any time
  • Meet instructional requirements by tracking either school days or instructional hours

Previously, schools were required to meet both a minimum number of instructional days and instructional hours. The updated law allows districts operating on an hour-based calendar  to more easily adapt to disruptions. Because Lenape Tech consistently exceeds Pennsylvania’s required instructional hours —990 hours for secondary students — the school can now transition away from the FID model and utilize Remote Learning Days moving forward.

For students and families, Remote Learning Days will look almost identical to Flexible Instructional Days. Instruction will remain asynchronous, allowing students to complete coursework independently according to the instructions provided by their teachers.

While the school may utilize Remote Learning when appropriate, the option to call a traditional snow day will still remain available.

Please refer to our website for detailed information for parents and students regarding the use of Remote Learning days.
