Objective of Field

The Automotive Technician repairs various automotive problems using computers, hand tools, power tools, and various service information.


Job Duties

  • Confer with customers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements
  • Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
  • Diagnose and repair parts and systems on vehicles and remove units for rebuild or replacement

Certification Tests

  • National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) Exam
  • Pennsylvania Safety Inspectors Test
  • SP2 training
  • General Motors online training tests and certificates
